For Concord Town Moderator

Eric Van Loon wins Town Moderator race in Concord

Concord Journal Letter to the Editor, April 1, 2010

Eric Van Loon thanks voters

To the Editor:

I would like to thank the more than 2000 citizens who braved the cold rain and wind on Election Day to vote on behalf of Concord and its direct democratic government, our Town Meeting. And I want to express again my appreciation for my opponent’s commitment to the town.

The vigorous campaign for Moderator underscored Ned Perry ‘s wisdom in urging that there be a contested race. I hope that the competition between John Stevens and me encouraged additional interest and enthusiasm for Town Meeting among voters, including those who have not participated in the past.

Both candidates met people from all parts of town and benefitted from learning voter perspectives and hearing their concerns about Town Meeting. Citizens asked good questions, read materials, wrote letters, held signs, and participated energetically—showing the same commitment Concord needs to govern itself.

Town Meeting 2010 starts in just over three weeks. I look forward to seeing my fellow citizens there and to working with the many town officials whose analysis and preparation contribute so greatly to the quality of our Town Meeting experience.
